When it comes to tablet pc,s, there’s no question about it. The iPad and other Android tablets currently dominate the market.  However, Windows tablets are on the rise and slowly but surely they are making their way to the top and it’s just a matter of time before they breakthrough and wreak havoc on the industry.

And given the fact that the powerful Windows 7 is being implemented in their tablets, and Windows 8 on the horizon you can surely bet that the next generation of Windows tablets will  give Android and iPad some serious competition in the very near future.

If you’re in the market for a Windows tablet I’ve put together this list of the top Windows tablets available today, and  some unlike the iPad or Android tablets, are even powerful enough to replace your current desktop or laptop.

In the recent CES 2011, quite a few Windows tablet were announced, which is a good sign for Windows fans. And amongst the 80 odd tablet PCs that were announced, the one that surely stood out was the Asus Eee EP121.

Its massive 12 inch screen with a spectacular resolution of 1280 by 800 is truly impressive. Running on Windows 7, the user can not only experience the unique handwriting recognition feature, but can also easily use the Office Suite.

acer w500 tabletThe release of the iPad marked the dawn of a new era in electronics: the tablet era. Most new tablets released (and it feels like everyone is releasing one now) usually offer the same old tired apps at lower prices, but few truly distinguish themselves from the rest of the crowd and bring something new to the table.

The Acer Iconia Tab W500 is one such tab. With a Windows 7 interface, it actually presents a more familiar persona to us Windows users than most tablets and it even has all the applications we’ve grown to rely upon like Microsoft Word and Excel and even VLC and antivirus programs as well. In the same CES 2011, another device that grabbed a few eyeballs was the Samsung Sliding PC 7 series. When launched this will be Samsung’s first windows tablet.

Their Galaxy Tab having done quite well, it will be interesting to see how the consumers respond to this tab. Samsung has tried something rather unique with this series, as the tab comes with a sliding screen, which when slid reveals a keyboard!

This thing was supposed to be released back in Mar. 2011 and as of Jan 2012 it still hasn’t launched. We’re not exactly sure what the hold up is but the Samsung Sliding PC may be dead on arrival.

Many gadgets manufacturers in the market are eyeing October release of Window 8 operating system. Companies like Sony, Toshiba and Lenovo are planning to launch their own range of Tablets. Windows best time friend Nokia will be soon launching Window 8 tablet by end of 2012.

HP is also forecasting huge market after the launch of Windows 8 operating system. HP also plans to launch its own range of tablets. Hewlett Packard CEO Meg Whiteman has big plans for his company. These plans will come into full action by years end with the launch of Windows 8.

HP is not planning any head on head competition with i-pad. It is just focusing on management and security issues with the gadget. CEO of HP has announced that HP has planned to ship Windows 8 products by year-end.

HP is innovating three types of Windows8 Tablets, backed by chips from Qualcomm and Intel. One is a thin laptop or a Hybrid Tablet. The other product is the proper tablet. HP wants to penetrate deeper into the market with different usability by consumers. The third product is the gadget, which is supported by Qualcomm processor.

There is no detailed information about this particular product.
HP will first start with the sale of x86 tablet because there is still no fixed date for the delivery of software on an ARM chip.

HP could not lure the consumers with their Slate500 and Slate2 tablets. However, HP is counting on the new Window 8 software. HP will be launching a Business theme tablet supporting Window8. To launch an i-pad is not a realistic move. Apple has already launched its i-pad and estimated a sale of $19 billion of Macs. 91% of professionals have bought their i-pads are already using them.

HP’s work tablet is not a new concept. Cisco has Cius in the market however, this is an Android device which doesn’t sell to consumers. Cius is quiet pricey and is more like an IP phone handset. HP tablets should have good features of both i-Pad and Cius.

Whitman mentions that she does not worry about the competition between tablets and i-Pad. Both have a different usability. She uses i-Pad in reading books and watching TV however, Tablet is used more for the business purpose.
HP has to be really smart and efficient in utilizing the managerial skills of Whitman.

The internal news from within the organisation has confirmed that soon a new CEO will be joining the organisation. In these circumstances, usually it becomes difficult for teams to coordinate. There needs to be adjustability and communication should be perfect.

HP is quite confident about their new tablet and its features. However, they should focus on what other competitors are doing in the market. How HP is different from others should be well understood and well communicated to the world. This can make a lot of difference in this competitive forum.

The three tablet range is soon to penetrate deep into the various segmented market of gadgets.
